Wahin Hum Bhi Thay: Eik Nazmiya Journal [We Were Also There: a Poetic Journal]

This book is a "poetic journal" based on seven decades of my observations, thoughts, and experiences. As a reminder, a journal does not have to record everything. Similarly, it is not essential to include the date or chronology of each item presented in the book.

My journal, We Were Also There, includes writings on the events and circumstances that left a deep impression on me and which I expressed in the form of poetry. Call it catharsis, a thoughtful reaction, or a search for my own identify. To me it seems that at different points in time one or more of these would have been applicable. Many people invest a great deal of time searching for their inner self, and yet the process of search, understanding, and transformation remains unfinished.

My own story is close to what my friend, Yasmeen Hameed says:
“There were fires all around, and loads of people everywhere
It got to be very late before I could even think of myself.
And then, it took me a lot of time to shape myself
Into being what I never wanted to be.”
