The 1818 Society Taxation and Immigration Committee is pleased to announce a forthcoming seminar on U.S. Federal Income Taxes and Foreign Financial Asset Reporting. The seminar will be of primary interest to members of the Society who are U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:
The seminar will focus on: (i) important features of the U.S. Federal income tax system and of individual income tax returns for 2023 including recent updates; (ii) how to report the World Bank Group SRP pension as well as other foreign financial accounts and assets on Form 8938 (Statement of Specified foreign Financial Assets); and (iii) how also to report foreign financial accounts on FinCEN Form 114 (Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR)).
Time permitting, the seminar may also provide a brief update on the status of the U.S. exit tax (expatriation tax). The exit tax may possibly affect a U.S. citizen who renounces U.S. nationality, or a U.S. permanent resident who terminates U.S. residency either voluntarily or involuntarily, and who meets certain criteria related to the duration of U.S. residency, average annual net income taxes, and net worth.
