Stein Lundebye will give a presentation on a very successful road safety strategy and action plan project prepared for the Government of Dubai in 2008. He was the Sweroad Team Leader for this project and has followed the progress of the road accident situation since the study was completed. He found out that the Government implemented all the team’s recommendations, and the results have been remarkable.
Stein worked as a transportation specialist for more than 50 years, and has never been involved with a road safety project which has given such positive results. The fatality rate per 100,000 population reduced from 21.7 to 1.8 thirteen years later! Dubai has now achieved fatality rates better than Norway, Sweden, the UK, and the Netherlands which are the leading countries regarding road safety.
