On Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10:00AM the 1818 Society World Bank History Thematic Group, the World Bank Group Archives, and the World Bank Group Library will sponsor a webinar with Dr. Eric Helleiner, who will discuss his book Forgotten Foundations of Bretton Woods: International Development and the Making of the Postwar Order.
Dr. Helleiner’s book notes that critics of Bretton Woods have argued that its architects devoted little attention to international development issues or the concerns of poorer countries. On the basis of extensive historical research and access to new archival sources, he challenges these assumptions.
In his review of the book, the noted economist Barry Eichengreen wrote: “Forgotten Foundations is classic interdisciplinary history, drawing on literatures from political science and economics as well as primary sources.”
Dr. Helleiner is a Professor and University Research Chair in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo, and at the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
A Q&A session will follow Dr. Helleiner’s presentation.
