A presentation by the 1818 Society Energy Thematic Group
Abstract: India has set aggressive renewable energy targets and has made significant progress against these. Still, coal remains at the core of its energy supply, providing over 50% of India’s primary energy needs. As the world looks to COP 26, what is the future of coal in India? Can India move beyond coal? In trying to do so, will it jeopardize its development goals? This presentation will examine the future of coal in India as it comes under increasing pressure from a broad range of energy transitions.
Speaker: Simon Stolp is presently Energy Practice Manager for the World Bank’s South Asia Region, having moved into the position after serving as Principal Energy Specialist with responsibility for coordinating the India energy program. Based in Delhi, Simon came to the Bank after working in the Australian energy consulting industry.
