Urban and Water Thematic Group event
The World Bank has been supporting The Government of India in its efforts to restore the Ganga River Basin. Despite severe challenges, the Government of India’s Namami Gange Program and the National Mission for Clean Ganga have made significant progress in improving the river’s health. The presentation will describe the strategies implemented in this complex initiative, including institutional reforms, improved river basin management, public awareness campaigns, and the introduction of a hybrid annuity model for public-private partnerships to scale up wastewater management. Key lessons learned and remaining challenges in the ongoing work to rejuvenate this vital waterway will be explored.
