Achievement of results in the largest ever $93 billion IDA20 (2023-2025) and the Bank’s Evolution to be significantly bigger and better programs will require efficient implementation with accountability. While the primary responsibility for addressing these challenges rests with the recipient government civil society organizations (CSOs) can help as partners in delivery and assuring accountability for results. This session will discuss what roles CSOs currently play, what more can they do and what actions are needed to make this happen? These issues have been discussed in a study prepared by Partnership for Transparency (PTF) with support from the Open Society Foundations (OSF).
The event will be chaired by Dirk Mattheisen, President PTF and begin with a presentation by Vinay Bhargava on behalf of PTF team (Dirk Mattheisen, Richard Stern, Daniel Ritchie, Gaiv Data, John Clark, Hasan Tuluy, Haleh Bridi, Aileen Marshall). This will be followed by remarks by Ms. Louis Cord, Director, Social Inclusion, Mr. Roby Senderowitsch and Ms. Rose Craigue.
Presenter: Dr. Vinay Bhargava is Chief Technical Adviser at the Partnership for Transparency (www.PTFUnd.org). He is former World Bank Country Director and co-chairs the 1818 Society Governance Thematic Group. PTF is a volunteer’s organization and supports citizen engagement with governments to improve development effectiveness through transparency, accountability and reduced corruption. Vinay has worked in the World Bank as a development specialist in South Asia, East Asia, Western Africa, Eastern Europe and Middle East. He has written and spoken extensively on the subject of fighting corruption particularly through citizen and civil society led programs.
