A presentation by the Energy Thematic Group of the 1818 Society
The Fund started out as a mechanism for controlling the resource curse. Today it is the world’s largest SWF (USD 1,4 tn in a nation of 5 million). The talk will analyse the reasons for its success and point to dilemmas for its future. How will the fund tackle the challenge of climate change, a changed geopolitical framework and domestic legitimacy at the same time as it maintains its role as a pension fund for all inhabitants for Norway?
Speaker: Professor Petter Nore, Nord University
Petter Nore, serves as a senior consultant in the field of sustainable energy at the Norwegian Agency for Development (NORAD) and Professor, Nord University. He formerly held the position of Director of Energy in the same institution when he was also a member of UN Secretary General’s Commission “Sustainable Energy for All”. He has the unique track record of holding high level executive positions in energy business such as Senior Vice President in Norsk Hydro and Director of Strategy at the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. He also served as the Natural Gas Team Leader at the World Bank. He serves on the international Board of New Energy Alliance situated in Holland.
